Putting together a"Glorious" concert takes a lot of "Glorias"!
We are going to amaze and astound you with several different settings of Gloria. Arnold Freed's Gloria is a very powerful modern work performed with brass ensemble and timpani. The Haydn Gloria in Excelsis Deo is a very traditional setting of the work. Dufay's work was written in the 1400's, and the medieval tone is haunting and more somber than the other two settings. We are also presenting the premiere performance of a new work, The "Gloria" Variations, by our composer in residence, W.G. Pete Stokes. Each work exemplifies "Glory to God in the Highest." And how do you end a concert of "Glorias"? Why, with Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria of course! What a "Glorious" way to move into the Easter Season! Both performances will be at St. Joseph Catholic Parish Center 4590 St Josephs Way, Pomfret, MD |
