Our 23rd Season - 2018-2019

Thursday, December 6th at 7:30 pm
Saturday, December 8th at 6:30 pm
Sunday, December 9th at 3:30 pm

Our Annual Renaissance Christmas Concert was not to be missed! We put together a concert that brought you beautiful arrangements of medieval carols (Veni, Veni, Emmanuel; O Magnum Mysterium), some traditional favorites with a twist (Deck the Halls), and featured A Ceremony of Carols by Benjamin Britten. Under new leadership, we began with our Procession of the Court, in full costume, into the Banquet Hall with Masters in this Hall and you found yourself transported to the world of Henry VIII.

Our first concert was a benefit concert for Peace Lutheran Church Food Pantry which was free to attend. Donations were gratefully accepted, followed by a bake sale.

Our second concert included a 3 course meal with your choice of entree.

Our third concert was more traditional followed by a dessert reception.

We amazed and astounded our audience with several different settings of Gloria. Arnold Freed's Gloria is a very powerful modern work and was performed with brass ensemble and timpani. The Haydn Gloria in Excelsis Deo is a very traditional setting of the work. Dufay's work was written in the 1400's, and the medieval tone is haunting and more somber than the other two settings. We also presented the premiere performance of the new work, The "Gloria" Variations, by our composer in residence, W.G. Pete Stokes.
Each work exemplified "Glory to God in the Highest." And how did we end a concert of "Glorias"?

Why, with Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria of course!

What a "Glorious" way it was to move into the Easter Season!

Both performances were held at
St. Joseph Catholic Parish Center
4590 St Josephs Way, Pomfret, MD

We put together a pair of amazing people who are icons on the Broadway Musical Theater World for our last concert of the season.

Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II began "putting it together" in 1943 with their opening blockbuster, Oklahoma! They went on to create some of the most beloved musicals during the "golden age" of Broadway - Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I, and The Sound of Music, just to name a few. Of course, they weren't the ONLY collaborators on Broadway.

Who Influenced them?
Who did they influence?
Who else did they work with?

Well, you just had to put yourself together and come to the show to have found out!  Guests left humming, tapping their toes, and singing their favorite Broadway tunes.

Both performances were held at
Port Tobacco Players Theater
508 Charles St., La Plata, MD
