Our 14th Season - 2008-2009

The Chesapeake Choral Art Society's 2008-2009 concert season featured A Nativity Celebration: "The First Nowell" as their holiday performance. The pops concert By George! That's Good Music! was presented in March, and the spring concert of Symphony of Psalms by Igor Stravinsky and Serenade to Music by R. Vaughan Williams finished off the year.

The first concert of the season was a collection of works all celebrating the Nativity. It was performed on Saturday, the 20th and Sunday, the 21st of December at the La Plata United Methodist Church in La Plata, Maryland.

Comprised of folk songs and carols, it featured solos by: Cathy Compton, Michelle Newman, Lynn Monje, Justin McCright, John Scheer, Robert Wenzinger, Carol Charnock, Allen Schenck, Oscar Jackson, Larry Robinson, Martha Tersero, Heather Gochnour, Peter Ullmann, and Ashley Kirby.

The First Nowell by R. Vaughan Williams featured solos by Ashley Kirby and Michael Mickey; a shepherd's trio of Justin McCright, Peter Ullmann, amd Michael Mickey; and a string quartet featuring: Sarah Koon, Michelle Harris, Heidi Mickey, and Lori DeLoache.

This season's pop concert was comprised of a collection of music by George Gershwin. Our performance was held on Saturday the 28th of March at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Waldorf, Maryland.

Selections from Porgy & Bess and A Damsel in Distress were performed with solos sung by: Larry Robinson, Cathy Compton, Peter Ullmann, Martha Tersero, Justin McCright, Lynn Monje, Annabelle Lowe, Pat Stokes, Therese Thiedeman, Allen Schenck, Steve Schwab, John Van Blarcom, and guest soloists Jennifer Cooper and Angela Powell.

A second performance was held on Sunday the 29th of March at the La Plata United Methodist Church in La Plata, Maryland.

The spring concert of our season occurred on Sunday the 14th of June at the Port Tobacco Players Theater in La Plata, Maryland. It was a paring of R. Vaughan Williams' Serenade to Music with text from The Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare and Igor Stravinsky's Symphony of Psalms with text from Psalm 39,40 and 150 of the Bible.

The program included guest soloists: Jennifer Cooper, Ashley Kirby, and Joe Richter. It also had a twenty piece orchestra for Symphony of Psalms.
