Our 21st Season - 2016-2017
December 8th, 10th and 11th Our first concert of the season consisted of three performances. The performances consisted of music from medieval and Renaissance time periods. The concert was performed in period dress with lords, ladies and even a jester in attendance. The first concert was a benefit put on for the Peace Lutheran Church. Admission was free, but donations were gladly accepted. Our second concert included a full three course dinner with the performance to follow. The girl scouts helped serve both the refreshments and the figgy pudding for dessert. Our third and final performance for this cycle had a dessert reception follow the performance. |
Saturday, April 8th at 7:30 pm
Sunday, April 9th at 3:30 pm The POPS concert consisted of a "menagerie" of songs that referenced animals or were from films or shows about animals. You may have recognized "Baby Elephant Walk", the "Pink Panther" theme, medleys from "Cats" and "The Lion King", as well as many other popular songs that were performed. A portion of the ticket sales were donated to the Charles County Humane Society. |
Saturday, June 10th at 7:30 pm
Sunday, June 11th at 3:30 pm Our last concert of the 2016-2017 season was a performance of Brahms: A German Requiem (Ein Deutsches Requiem, Op. 45). Brahms' requiem is as unique as it is beautiful. Most Requiem mass settings follow the traditional Latin setting and are normally written and performed in Latin. However, Brahms' work is written in the vernacular of the composer (German) and follows instead the text from the German Luther Bible. In order for all to enjoy and understand this wonderful composition, the Chesapeake Choral Arts Society performed it in English, rather than the traditional German. The performances featured two local soloists: Amy Statz Dolan as our Soprano Soloist and Antony Zwerdling as our Baritone Soloist. Both performances were accompanied by a full orchestra, comprised of local teachers, instrumentalists and students from the area. |
