Our 27th Season - 2022-2023
It’s been a difficult time for many, but America still remains strong and
hopeful! We celebrated our country through our tribute to American composers and American music. Uplifting songs like One Voice (Barry Manilow), The Storm is Passing Over (arr. by Barbara Baker), From a Distance (Julie Gold), and Count Your Blessings (Irving Berlin) reminded you of the hope and beauty of life. Patriotic music included This is My County (Raye/Jacobs) and I Am America (Emerson) to encourage us. Broadway hits Seize the Day (Newsies) and Brand New Day (The Wiz) gave us light hearts and happy souls. We had a little of something for everyone. All Concerts were at: St. Joseph’s Catholic Parish Center 4590 St. Joseph’s Way Pomfret, MD 20675 |
Our season opening performance was of the Christmas portion (Part 1) of Handel’s Messiah and Hallelujah Chorus.
Messiah is an oratorio written in 3 parts based on the King James Bible and the Cloverdale Psalter reflections on Jesus, the Messiah. In Part I, the Messiah’s coming and birth are predicted by the Old Testament prophets and the Gospel of Luke. It has become a tradition to add the Hallelujah Chorus from Part II to finish off the performance. With 4 soloists and a full orchestra, this was a powerful way to bring in the Christmas Season. We also featured a Holiday Sing-A-Long and patrons brought along their best holiday voice to join in on some favorite Carols and Christmas songs. Our Sunday Concert included a Messiah Sing-A-Long! Patrons brought their score and joined the choir for the choruses from this beautiful work. Both performances were held at St. Joseph Catholic Parish Center 4590 St Josephs Way, Pomfret, MD |
Romantic period to the 20th Century, from French to Latin, from religious to secular- there was something for everyone in this concert.
We traveled the world in our time machine with music by Mozart, Vaughan Williams and Hogan. Te Deum Laudimas is Mozart’s wonderful hymn of praise. Add to that Moses Hogan’s Music is Down in My Soul and you had a concert that moved your heart to sing. Our featured work for this concert was Serenade to Music by Ralph Vaughan Williams. The text of this work is based on a discussion of music from Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice. Patrons joined us for this great travel through time and countries. Both performances were held at St. Joseph Catholic Parish Center 4590 St Josephs Way, Pomfret, MD |
Who remembers the 60’s?
Did you grow up then? Do you wish you grew up then? We brought back memories (or what you think you remember!) with “fab” music that included the Fab Four (the Beatles, for those of us too young to know), Sonny and Cher, and a lot of Motown favorites. You can’t tell us that you never sang along to The Lion Sleeps Tonight or My Girl ! Patrons left feeling rejuvenated and just plain happy as they Let the Sun Shine In. A Great time for All Ages! Both performances were held at St. Joseph Catholic Parish Center 4590 St Josephs Way, Pomfret, MD |
